The Delphic Epsilon is an ancient Greek symbol (key) that was associated with man’s initiation into the light.<\/span><\/span> For this reason it was in the Temple of Apollo in Delphi, where the cult of the Sun was held (Apollo was the god of the Sun). <\/span><\/span>In particular, it was placed three times (wood, copper, gold) on the top of the pediment of the central eastern gate of the temple, together with the “GNOTHI SEUTON” in the lower left corner and the “MIDEN AGAAN” in the lower right of the same pediment.<\/span><\/span> The origin of the symbol and phrases was attributed to the seven sages. <\/span><\/span>In Ancient Greece it symbolized: <\/span><\/span>as a figure: union and trinity (three parallel lines joined). <\/span><\/span>as a number: the 5 cosmogenic elements Earth, Air, Water, Fire and Ether (quintessence). <\/span><\/span>The only information about the Delphic Epsilon comes from Plutarch, who was a lifelong Priest of Apollo.<\/span><\/span> In “On the Ei at Delphi”, Plutarch cites various explanations in the dialogues, the best being given by Ammonius (his teacher), as an address of surprise and respect to God, namely Ei (sai), which translates as only you exist<\/span><\/span> , the only sure thing that exists eternally, in contrast to “know thyself” which is a reminder to the mortal being, with its changeable nature, subject to birth and decay.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
