⚜️About Dragons
Interestingly, the word dragon comes from two separate Greek words. One word means “a huge snake or serpent” and the other means “to see clearly”.
The word dreki is a loanword from the Greek and Latin forms of dragon and is used in Old Norse in different ways: It is heiti (synonym) for the great earth-serpent-monster that appears in Germanic tradition as ormr or linnormr (lindworm). But it also refers to a later Romanesque winged dragon, often fire-breathing and having four legs. The term dreki was also used on the great Viking longships, where the prow, when carved in the form of a dragon, was intended to protect and impart ferocity to sailors. Dragons are the embodiment of the “primordial power” – the absolute ruler of all the elements. This is because the Dragon is the master of all the elements: Fire, Water, Earth and Wind. The Dragon serves as a powerful guardian and guide. The Dragon totem is a need for strength, courage and fortitude. Dragons are also messengers of balance and magic – they encourage us to tap into our psychic nature and see the world through the eyes of mystery and wonder. Truly an extraordinary gift of power, mysticism and of course good taste! Dragon symbolism is common in Western and Eastern cultures and represents the ultimate beast, the adversary and the devil. The dragon symbol also means water, clouds, rain, floods, sin or evil. It is the sea monster of the Jews. In China, this mythical creature was believed to exist in the form of a prehistoric monster that lived in the Yangtze River. In Egypt, the dragon was believed to be related to the crocodile. It was also the symbol of water, cloud, rain, floods, and sin or evil.
In Christian Art, the “jaws of hell” were depicted as the dragon with open jaws spewing flames.
Dragons have also been associated with fire, and therefore, passion. In many parts of the world, the dragon symbol means sovereignty, rights, and power. It also symbolizes floods, clouds, and rain. In the East, dragons have different symbolic meanings based on their colors. The dragon also has the power of transformation and invisibility.
Some Native American tribes had legends about a dragon-like creature called the Thunder Lizard.
This may have been inspired by the discovery of dinosaur bones by Native Americans.
Native tribes along the California coast told stories about dragons and their role in the formation of the Earth by a dragon and a God. Before the present Earth was formed, two Gods – Nagaicho and Thunder – created the Earth and put rocks, flowers, clouds and fire. But soon it rained and flooded everything.
All living things were washed away in the floods and everything became dark.
Then the Earth Dragon flew away with Nagaicho on its back. When it walked under the ocean, it formed ridges and islands.
