⚜️About Vegvisir
The vegvísir (Icelandic for “signpost, wayfarer”) is an Icelandic magic wand intended to help the bearer find their way in difficult weather conditions.
A leaf of the manuscript provides an image of the vegvísir, gives its name, and, in prose, states that “if this sign is carried, one will never lose one’s way in storms or bad weather, even when the way is unknown.” Vegvísir comes from two Icelandic words, vegur and vísir. Vegur means “road, path, path” and vísir means “path, guide.” When settlers first arrived in Iceland in 874 CE, they brought with them the Old Norse religion. This included the belief and worship of the Æsir and Vanir, the Gods of Norse religion. It also incorporated ideas about magic and how it could be used for personal success in various ways. The original inhabitants and their descendants developed a number of Icelandic magical staves. symbols for channeling magic. These staves have become intertwined with Norse mythology today, so the symbols appear in many places. One of the most popular of these pentagrams is the Vegvisir, or Viking compass.

⚜️ About the Valknut
The valknut is a symbol consisting of three interlocking triangles. It appears on a variety of objects from the archaeological records of the ancient Germanic peoples. The term valknut is a modern development. It is not known which term or terms were used to refer to the symbol historically.
Scholars have proposed various explanations for the symbol, sometimes linking it to the god Odin, and it has been compared to the three-horned symbol found on the 9th-century Snoldelev stone, to which it may be related. The valknut appears on a wide variety of objects found in areas inhabited by the Germanic peoples. The symbol appears prominently on the Ring of the River Nene, an Anglo-Saxon gold ring dating from around the 8th to 9th century. Next to the figure of Odin on his horse, which appears on many memorial stones, is depicted a type of knot, called a coconut, associated with the triskele. This is believed to symbolize the god’s power to bind and unbind, mentioned in the poems and elsewhere. Odin had the power to bind the mind, so that people were rendered helpless in battle, and could also relieve the tensions of fear and stress with his gifts of battle madness, intoxication, and inspiration.
